Drunk man robbed of jewels, phone and cash
A 29-year-old newly-married man was robbed by an autorickshaw-borne trio on Saturday night near Velappanchavadi.

The victim, A Jayakumar of Periamet, a cashier at a pharmacy chain, went to CMBT to a catch a bus to his wife’s hometown in Thanjavur when the incident happened.When he was waiting for the bus near the bus terminus arch under the influence of alcohol, a three-member gang approached him in an autorickshaw and offered to help him board the bus. Believing them, Jayakumar boarded the auto. But the trio took him to Velappanchavadi and relieved him of his jewels, mobile phone and cash before leaving him there. Only when he woke up on the roadside on Sunday morning did Jayakumar realise that he has been cheated and lodged a complaint at CMBT police station. A case has been registered and a hunt was launched for the unidentified trio. Police said that there was no CCTV at the spot where the victim claims to have boarded the autorickshaw. Further inquiry is on.
Meanwhile, Rajamangalam police are on the lookout for unidentified burglars who escaped with Rs 15,000 from a snacks shop in Kolathur on Saturday night. N Ramanathan (63) has lodged a complaint that his shop was burgled after he closed it and went to his house on the first floor of the same building at Jayaram Nagar.
