Jobs for kin of Vadapalani depot victims
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh for each of the two Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) employees who died in an accident at Vadapalani depot on July 28.

An official release said that apart from the solatium, one member from their families would be given a job in state transport corporations dependingon their educationalqualification.
Bharati, 28, junior mechanic, who got married 20 days ago and his colleague Sekar, 48, died after an MTC bus rammed a wall of a resting area at the depot. Masilamani, 48, Thanigaivel, 40, Yuvaraj, 45, Pattuswami, 35, Balamurugan, 35, and Kalsa, 40, were injured in the accident. A total of Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 will be given to for those suffering from grievous and minor injuries respectively, said an official release.
Around 1 am on July 28, mechanic Balamurugan, 40, drove the bus with the registration number TN-01-N4583 into the mechanic yard and tried to park it in the maintenance area. Since the stopper was not of sufficient height, the bus ran over it and crashed into the wall. Balamurugan was arrested.
