A senior official from the department said that the pedestrian path would be developed in the Ambattur industrial stretch of the Tirumangalam-Mogappair high road at an estimated cost ofRs 2 crore, as part of the road safety works.

Tirumangalam-Mogappair high road is an important State Highways Road in Tiruvallur District. The road branches from Inner Ring Road and ends Ambathur Industrial Road.

“This stretch houses major organisations and IT enabled Industries. This road is the vital link to Chennai Business Depot (CBD) area. Further, a lot of industries are expected to come up here, hence the commercial traffic is extremely high here,” said official. He added that tenders have already been invited for the pavement project.

The road is major link road connecting the city with the suburban areas like Avadi and beyond. Because it experiences heavy traffic, the Highway Department official said that pedestrians were always at the risk of being hit by the fast moving vehicles.

“To avoid accidents and fatalities involving pedestrians in the busy industrial area, the Highways Department will construct pavements in the Ambattur industrial estate stretch of the high road,” he added.
