Contractual staffer steals 19 cellphones from post office, held
A contractual employee at the head-post office on Anna Salai has been arrested on charges of stealing 19 brand-new mobiles phones which were kept for distribution to the staff members.

The incident is said to have taken place on August 20 and the accused has been identified as B Prabhu (31) of Vyasarpadi. The staff noticed that phones kept in a parcel were missing and alerted manager Guruvarangaveni (37). Based on his complaint, the Chinthadripet police registered a case and initiated an inquiry.
Police personnel , led by inspector murugesan, examined the spot and found another unopened box containing mobile phones. The postal officials reportedly told the investigating officers that they bought 41 new mobiles to distribute to staff and kept them in a storeroom on the second floor.
Since one of the stolen phones was functional, the police traced the person with the help of the IMEI number. He was questioned and he told the cops that he bought the mobile from one Prabhu.
Later, police personnel nabbed Prabhu and questioned him. He reportedly admitted having stolen the mobiles from the post office. Police personnel seized the stolen 18 other phones from Prabhu’s residence. He was booked for theft and he was remanded in Puzhal prison.
