School students held for stealing phones, currency garland from Vinayaka idol

The Koyambedu police detained two school students on Saturday for stealing mobile phones from houses in the locality and seized 11 mobile phones from them.

They were secured by a resident of Anbu Nagar in Koyambedu when they tried steal phones from his house in the wee hours of Saturday. The accused were handed over to the Koyambedu police.


Interrogation revealed that the duo stole several phones in a similar manner and sold the devices to mobile phone service centres. They used the money to watch movies and eat in restaurants. One of them is a Class 10 student and the another is a Class 7 student, said the police. They added that the students also stole a garland made of currencies from a Vinayaka idol at Karumariamman Nagar recently. Both of them were sent to the observation home in Kellys.


3 mobile phones recovered from two robbers

The Periamet police have arrested two men who robbed mobile phones from three men in different incidents on the pretext of seeking directions for addresses in broad daylight near MGR Chennai Central on Saturday.


The accused, R Ajith (20) of Pallikaranai and M Rajesh (20), were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday. The incidents happened around 2 pm on EVR Salai and the victims who lost their mobile phones to the accused are - B Ajithkumar, G Karthik and K Ashok. As one of them raised an alarm, police personnel on patrol near Chennai Central secured the duo and handed them over to the Periamet police station. The robbed mobile phones were recovered from them. Investigation is on.
