600 schools take part in VIT Science Day event

Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, conducted Science Day on September 4 at its premises. Organised by the School of Advanced Sciences for school children to promote science and the spirit of invention and innovation in young minds, the theme of the event was Science for People and People for Science.

Competitions like science quiz, periodic table quiz, science exhibits, power point presentations, poster presentation, dumb charades, rangoli, drawing and painting were held during the programme. Over 600 students from 21 schools in the city participated in the event and showcased their talents by describing, projecting and highlighting various science experiments.


The chief guest for the science day event was Secretary M Michael Aruldhas, Society for Reproductive Biology and Comparative Endocrinology, who advised students to be cautious while choosing subjects for their higher education. “Try and understand yourself and your talent. Work to nurture and blossom,” he said.


Another speaker, Senior Administrative Officer, EMK Kabilan, Southern region, Tangedco, stated that students are the rulers of the country and asked them to take up one idea, dream about it and live it.


The overall trophy was won by Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Polachery, Kancheepuram. The runner-up trophy was bagged by PSBB Millennium School, OMR. “The event was a wonderful experience,” said P Manish, a student of the school. More than 100 prizes were distributed to theparticipants.
