Techie’s death: Ruling party ex-councillor absconding

Amid the uproar caused by Subhasri’s death, both police and media were sent on a tizzy after a news spread on Saturday that C Jayagopal, the man allegedly responsible for the incident, has been admitted to a private hospital with chest pain.

Following this, Pallikaranai police inspector Azhagu checked at the hospital, but Jayagopal was not there. Sources said that police also checked with another private hospital in Perumbakkam and confirmed that he was not admitted there either.

Finally it emerged that Jayapaul, a 24-year-old software engineer, was admitted to the hospital for a check-up on Saturday. Jayagopal’s younger brother was his friend, said police sources, adding that the rumours about Jayagopal was triggered after his brother came to the hospital to visit his friend.

“The search is still on to nab him. We are confident of arresting him soon,” said inspector Azhagu.

Meanwhile, Kancheepuram collector P Ponnaiah has warned action against those erecting digital banners in public places. The official said digital banners should not be erected in public places for birthdays, marriage or temple functions, and added that it should not be kept outside theatres during film releases.

The collector added that the public may alert the district administration on the number 9943907778 if they found any banner erected in violation of the rule. They may also send the images, he added.

As per an order by the Madras High Court, those who want to install banners should obtain prior permission from the district administration, Ponnaiah said, adding that the presses can print the banner only after getting the copy of the permission letter. The serial number should be mentioned in the bottom of the banner. If the banner is printed without the serial number the license would be cancelled and shop will be sealed, the collector warned.
