30-yr-old injured as billboard collapses at Pallikaranai

Two days after a woman techie was run over by a lorry after a banner fell on her two-wheeler, a 30-year-old man who was roped in to remove hoardings erected outside an apartment complex in the Pallikaranai was injured after the huge billboard collapsed on Saturday night.

Following the death of 23-year-old Subhasri on the Pallavaram-Thoraipakkam Radial Road, the Chennai Corporation had started removing illegal hoardings and banners from the city. On Saturday evening, some workers were involved in removing a 50-foot billboard placed outside an apartment complex on the same road, around 100 metres from where Subhasri’s lost her life.


As Rajesh (30) and his co-workers were involved in the work when the hoarding came down crashing. Rajesh also fell along with it and sustained injuries on his leg and hands. Shocked residents of the building rushed him to a nearby private hospital. The man is said to be out of danger, said police, who added that no case has been registered, as no one has lodged a complaint so far. Further investigation is on.


Search for AIADMKfunctionary continues


Meanwhile, Pallikaranai police are yet to trace the absconding AIADMK functionary C Jayagopal, the man allegedly responsible for thedeath of Subhasri.


While there were reports that Jayagopal has been booked in another section, Pallikaranai police when contacted said that it was not true. The officials there added that they were awaiting directions from higher officials to proceed in the case. On Saturday, Jayagopal was said to have been admitted at a private hospital in Perumbakkam, but a police team that went to the hospital could not find him there.
