CM to inaugurate Kodungaiyur sewage treatment plant

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami would inaugurate the waste water recycling plant at Kodungaiyur on Tuesday, said Municipal Administration and Water Supply Minister SP Velumani.

He was talking to the media at the Zero Point in Uthukottai, where the water released from Krishna river reached on Saturday.

The government has planned to commission two sewage recycling plants in the city, one at Kodungaiyur and the other at Koyambedu. The Kodungaiyur plant, with a planned capacity of 40 million litres per day, would be inaugurated on Tuesday while the one at Koyambedu that would be able to recycle 120 million litres per day would come up shortly, the Minister said. The recycled water would be supplied to the industries in an around Chennai, not only meeting the industrial demand but also leaving fresh water for supply for domestic purposes.

Meanwhile at Uthukottai, Minister Velumani and senior officials showered flowers to welcome the water released from Krishna river by Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu’s share of water was released on September 25.   Pointing out that the government had taken all efforts to ensure that the drinking water requirement of the State was fulfilled despite lack of rain, Velumani added that the Chief Minister would urge his Andhra Pradesh counterpart to release more water if the rains in the neighbouring State continued.
