“For past one week, tomato price was fluctuating between Rs 25 and Rs 30. But now it has increased to Rs 40 per kg due to shortage in supply from Karnataka owing to heavy rainfall. As against the usual daily supply of 80 truckloads, we are receiving only 60 truckloads now,” said P Sukumaran, secretary, Koyambedu Wholesale Market, adding that the traders were expecting the price to come down in the next few days.

“The prices of other vegetable are as usual. Potato is sold for Rs 20 per kg, beans for Rs 40, broad beans Rs 20, cabbage Rs 10, carrot Rs 25 – Rs 35, and peas Rs 80 – Rs 100,” he said.

Meanwhile, the flower prices have registered a dip, say vendors. “Only the price of jasmine has increased due to shortage. Currently, jasmine is sold at Rs 300 per kg, jasminum sambac for Rs 100 per kg, chrysanthemum Rs 100 per kg. The price will increase within two days in view of Navarathri and Ayudha Pooja,” said S Mookaiya, secretary, Koyambedu Malar Podhu Vyabarigal.

According to S Dhanasekar of Kai Kani Malar Podhu Nala Sangam, the prices of fruits remained the same, but would increase in a week in view of Ayudha Pooja.
