31 children with dengue treated at ICH

While the number of dengue and suspicious fever cases continue to increase, the State Health Department officials said that there are about 50 confirmed cases of dengue in the city and children were affected in more than 70 per cent of the cases.

“Two children, who were brought to the hospital in a critical condition, are slowly improving,” said a doctor at the ICH. In the last two days alone, about 10 patients with fever were admitted to the ICH. Many patients from private hospital and clinics are also being referred, said sources.

“Parents should immediately bring their children to the hospital in case of any fever symptoms. They should not wait till the situation gets critical. Dengue is easily curable if treated in the initial stage. We are providing nilavembu kashayam to the patients and monitoring them continuously. Only if the patients are in critical stage, we recommend blood transmission,” said Dr S Ezhilarasi, Director of ICH.

“So far, only one patient has undergone blood transmission in last week and she has started to recover,” Dr Ezhilarasi added.

According to Dr Raghunandhan, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), 110 patients have been admitted with fever of which 13 have tested positive for dengue. All of them are stable, he added.
