She has now collaborated with a brand to design a limited edition collection of kids’ clothing. I recently caught up with her and was snooping around to find her time turner.
I had heard her lament in the past saying that clothing options for boys were often very limited compared to the abundant choices for girls. She first discovered the brand ‘Leto’ as a customer and happened to bond with the label’s owners Gayathri Prakash, Shravya Manohar and Akshaya Sabarish — mothers of boys themselves. As she conversed with the women on the issue of the severe lack of outfit options for boys, little did she imagine that this one conversation would lead to a collaboration later.
Being a model, Priya has always been interested in fashion. She tells me it is quite fun to be able to dabble with one’s passion. “In a way, I have designed clothes that I wished were available for Araan, that are well made, with child-friendly fabrics, while being affordable. As my first collection was going to be a festive edit, I didn’t want to leave the girls out. There are also some cute outfits for brother-sister siblings to co-ordinate. There is a dearth in the market for boys’ clothing and my aim is to help mothers like me dress their kids well,” she reiterated.
She’s already working on the next limited edition line as Priya says it is important to her and other parents that their kids don’t wear mass produced items. It is necessary for kids’ clothing to be created with love and great attention to detail in small numbers. A lot of the design elements are inspired by her own little’s needs — from the fastenings being easy and the cut of the clothes being conducive to kids’ playing. Priya has used motherhood and her years of parenting to aid her through the design process.
City model bags a pivotal role in Vijay’s Bigil
We have a new actress on the block! It’s none other than Gayathri Reddy, the popular model who made her mark at Miss India pageant a few years ago, making it to the top 10, is now making her silver screen debut this Diwali with the highly anticipated Bigil. The sports action film, that has got everyone talking, has Vijay and Nayanthara in the lead roles, and has been directed by Atlee.
Amid this pool of talent and mega stardom, Gayathri is playing a pivotal role in the film as one of the main footballers. After extensive football training to portray the character with conviction, and months of shoot, the film is all set to release this Diwali.
Gayathri has several scenes with Vijay and Nayanthara in this debut performance of hers. Sharing screen space with industry veterans and superstars must have been quite nerve-wracking for any actor, let alone a debutante. After the customary nervous giggle in the first take, encouragement from actors and the director is said to have made working on the sets easier for upcoming actors. I heard through the grapevine that the director had created a great environment on sets to support the women, so each of them could put their best food forward. When the film’s posters were released, Gayathri was in the midst of watching another film at the movies, and couldn’t help but scream her lungs out when she saw her face on the first look posters, much to the confusion of audience at the theatre.
Many in the city have been wondering where she has been for most of this year, and now that the posters are out, we know she’s been prepping and acting in her dream debut. This festive season seems to be the time for Gayathri to shine bright.
