The arrested persons were identified as Iraianbu and a juvenile, both hailing from Kancheepuram and studying at a private college. The Vandalur Otteri and Manimangalam police received an alert from the bank headquarters in Mumbai around 1.30 am that some men were trying to break open an ATM near Keel Padappai in Karasangal.

Soon, a police team went to the spot and found two teenage boys, who had covered their faces, trying to open the ATM using a small welding machine. The police surrounded and detained them. Then, they were taken to the Manimanglam police station.

After the preliminary inquiry, the police said that the boys were the students of a private college in Pallavaram and belonged to economically backward families. A few months ago, they watched a video on YouTube that explained how to break open ATMs. They wanted to try it and monitored the ATM, which was on the way to their college, for more than a month. As the ATM kiosk had no security, they decided to loot it.

Both of them reached the ATM booth at midnight on Tuesday and began to break the machine after painting the cameras in black. The police said that the youth were not aware of the burglar alarm in the facility and were caught. Both of them were remanded in judicial custody.
