Auto runs over woman sleeping on pavement, injures three others
A 46-year-old woman living on a platform on Walltax Road near MGR Chennai Central Railway Station died and her daughter and two grandchildren suffered injuries after an autorickshaw, while trying to avoid hitting a dog, ran over them in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Anjali (46). Her daughter Chitra (29) and grandchildren Baran (13) and Bhavani (11) have been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
The police said that there were about 20 families living on the platform. Anjali was running an eatery on the pavement and the family stayed there itself. The incident happened around 2 am when they were asleep.
Hearing the noise after the autorickshaw ran over them, others living on the platform rescued and rushed them to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. However, Anjali was declared brought dead. Baran is said to have suffered a fracture on the leg, while the other two escaped with minor injuries.
The Elephant Gate traffic investigation police registered a case and secured the auto driver identified as Kaliappan (60) of Tondiarpet. Investigation revealed that Kaliappan was on his way to Molakothalam with a few passengers from Chennai Central.
Kaliappan turned his vehicle to avoid hitting a dog which crossed his path and lost control of the vehicle and ended up killing the pavement dweller.
A case has been registered and further investigation is on.
