Corporation bags award for smart classrooms

The Greater Chennai Corporation has bagged another Smart City award winning the Global Smart Cities Forum award for effectively implementing smart classrooms project in its schools. According to a Corporation press release, Deputy Commissioner (Works) M Govinda Rao received the award from Nagaland Education Minister Temjen Imna at an event held in New Delhi on Friday.

“Chennai Corporation has implemented smart classes in as many as 28 Corporation schools at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore under the Smart City Mission. The smart classes are equipped with electronic devices connected in internet,” the release said. Meanwhile, the civic body has taken measures to construct more smart classes in the Corporation schools at a cost of Rs 96 crore. The funds for the project would be provided by the French Development Agency (AFD) after the civic body won a nationwide competition, City Investments to Innovate, Integrate and Sustain (CITIIS) Challenge, conducted by the AFD recently. Representatives from AFD have already visited the city to inspect potential schools that would have smart classes. A few days ago, the civic body had received Governance Now’s Social Innovation for Accelerating Transition to Sustainable Cities award for implementing Namma Chennai app, solar rooftop, cycle sharing system and 28 smart class projects under Smart City Mission.
