Sources said that Abdul Lathief was questioned in Thousand Lights where he was staying with his family. His suspicion, allegations regarding his daughter’s death and his conversations her over the past few months were recorded by the police.
Later, the team visited IIT-Madras campus and held inquiries with the staff members of the Sarayu hostel where Fathima was staying. An official, speaking to DT Next, said that most of the students and staff have vacated the rooms due to study holidays. “We spoke to the hostel staff who claimed that they don’t interact much with the students as their roles were restricted to checking the attendance of the inmates,” said the official.
The team is yet to question the professors named by Fathima in her suicide notes retrieved from her phone. Though there were speculations that the professors have been barred from stepping out of the campus, the officer denied having placed any such restrictions on them.
It may be recalled that Fathima Lathief’s parents met CM Palaniswami and DGP JK Tripathy on Friday and sought for a fair probe into her daughter’s suicide.
