A special team headed by Poonamallee Traffic Investigation Inspector AV Srinivasan that investigated the case found out that autorickshaw racers and their friends had formed a WhatsApp group where race plans were discussed.
Based on the information, police arrested six persons, including Madarshah and Venkat, who were allegedly the main persons behind the autorickshaw racing in the city.
Prabhakar, the deceased mechanic, is said to me a prominent name in the illegal autorickshaw race circuit. During the race on bypass road, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a truck near the toll gate. It was initially suspected to be an accident, as the victim’s friend claimed that he fell from his bike. However, when they checked Prabhakar’s phone, the police came to know that they were involved in a race.
