The development comes after the team held inquiries with Fathima’s father Abdul Lathief and the professors, whose names were mentioned in the suicide notes retrieved from Fathima’s phone.

A senior police officer said that the inquiry took place on Saturday at the city police commissionerate and the police personnel who attended the case after they received an alert were questioned to ascertain if there were any shortcomings in the investigation.

It may be noted that Kotturpuram police, under whose jurisdiction the IIT-Madras falls, had initially said that Fathima resorted to the extreme step after she scored lower marks in a recent exam.

However, what started as yet another campus suicide became bigger after Fathima’s parents met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan seeking a fair probe into their daughter’s death.
