A source in the civic body said that Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash had brought this up in a recent meeting with the Metrorail officials.
“The green landscape that existed in front of the Ripon Buildings was destroyed during the construction work. As per the agreement, Metrorail is responsible for restoring the landscape,” the source said.
The civic body also has proposed to encase Ripon Buildings and Victoria Public Hall by demolishing the compound wall on the northern side of the Ripon Buildings to construct new compound wall enclosing the Victoria Public Hall. The Hall is being maintained by the civic body.
A new compound wall was constructed soon after the Metrorail works were completed, and the land was handed over to the civic body.
The Chennai Corporation has also decided to construct a new building inside the premises to house the upcoming integrated command control centre (ICCC).
A cycle-sharing programme has already been introduced in the Ripon Buildings and smart cycles are deployed for public use.
