According to officials, the Directorate of Medical Education had requested the State Health department to construct a compound wall to ensure that the institute property is safeguarded from encroachment.

The officials said that several infrastructural developments are needed at the institute to prevent trespassing of encroachers and to provide further amenities on the land that belongs to theInstitute.

The authorities at the institute said that few areas within the campus are often occupied by the trespassers. The lack of infrastructure for security makes it easy for the people in the neighbourhood to enter the premises without seeking permission.

They also disturb the functioning of the laboratories, complained officials. “It is no surprise to see a group of people gathering inside the premise during their leisure time and also encroach the land belonging to the institute,” said the official.

The Public Works Department will undertake the construction by next year after the funds are allotted by the Health Department.

The other upgradation works at the laboratory to facilitate molecular research and diagnosis will also start next year. Though the fund for the upgradation of the laboratory has not been discussed so far, officials hope that the allocation will be done by next year.
