St Thomas Mount all-women police team arrested him based on an order from National Commission for Women (NCW), to which his wife, Cynthia, had complained about the incident. The complaint was forwarded to the Chennai police. Based on that, the all-women police station registered a case and issued a look out circular for Raphael.

In her complaint, Cynthia said that she was taken to Singapore after marriage. But she was sent back by her husband after she became pregnant. She is now the mother of a 5-year-old child. In her petition, she has sought action against her husband who had allegedly harassed her seeking dowry.

After the probe was completed, an LOC was issued against Raphael, who was caught at Madurai airport when he landed there. The Immigration officials from there informed Chennai police that the wanted man has been detained. A team from Chennai police arrested him and brought him to Chennai where he was produced in Alandur court which remanded Raphael in custody.
