Appearing before a division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice R Suresh Kumar, Additional Advocate General SR Rajagopal produced a copy of the map in which the proposed footpath of four feet width has been planned.
He also submitted that the Corporation Commissioner of Greater Chennai Corporation has sent a representation in this regard to the Member Secretary, Tamil Nadu Coastal Zone Management Authority, on January 2.
He also submitted that the plea sought for adequate clearance so that the construction of the footpath and venturing area for the fishing community on the seaward side of the loop road as shown in the map can be undertaken.
Based on this, the bench then directed the Chennai Corporation to obtain approval and plan from the authority as expeditiously as possible so that it can undertake the construction in a speedy manner.
While posting the plea for further hearing to January 22, the bench also directed the Corporation to produce the draft guidelines for allotment of Identity cards to the street vendors on that day.
The matter relates to a petition filed by the organisation, Fishermen Care, seeking implementation of Murari Committee recommendations to protect the life and livelihood of the fishing community.
