Fake I-T officer robs man of Rs 7,500, held
A 52-year-old man who robbed a pedestrian of Rs 7,500 posing as an Income Tax official at Koyambedu mofussil bus terminus was caught by an MTC ticket checker for travelling without a valid ticket.

The accused was identified as Rahim of Kodungaiyur. Three fake identity cards of police, Income Tax and MTC departments in different names were seized from him.
Police said Rahim intercepted a man, identified as Babu of Villupuram, at the mofussil bus terminus in Koyambedu on Monday afternoon, for consuming gutkha. Rahim found that Babu was carrying Rs 7,500 and forced him to part with him as ‘fine’. However, when Babu was not willing to leave without money, Rahim asked Babu to join him for an inquiry.
When the duo was on a bus to Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, ticket checkers boarded the bus near Ayanavaram andcaught the duo without tickets. After Babu informed the ticket checkers that the other man was an I-T official,the crew, on suspicion, handed them over toAyanavaram police.
Further police inquiry revealed that Rahim was into such cheating posing as an officer with police, Income Tax and MTC departments. They also seized his duplicate identity cards.
He was later remanded in judicial custody.
