TikTok fame lands addicted snatchers in jail
A seven-member gang, including four juveniles, who carried out a series of snatchings to buy drugs, was nabbed after one of the victims found a TikTok video of the snatchers and informed police.

Investigation revealed that the gang is popular on TikTok, with one of them, N David (18), having more than 74,000 followers. After two snatching cases were reported in Pondy Bazaar and Choolaimedu, city police formed a special team under the supervision of T Nagar Deputy Commissioner D Ashok Kumar. Meanwhile, one of the victims whose phone was snatched by the accused came across TikTok video of them and informed the police.
The faces in the TikTok video and CCTV footage matched, and investigation revealed that the youngsters were from Pulianthope. They were identified as David, C Akash (21) and U Abilash (19) of Pulianthope, and four juveniles. Mambalam sub-inspector Venkatesan found that one of the phones they snatched was in Yelagiri. As inquiries revealed the gang has gone on a trip to the hill station, police laid a trap and nabbed all them when they returned. The police recovered six mobile phones, 15 grams of jewels and seized two bikes from them. The juveniles were sent to government observation home, while the other three were remanded in judicial custody on Sunday.
The police said that they targeted elderly persons in the night and used the money to buy ganja and other drugs.
