“There has been more supply since Saturday as compared to the other days. Hence, the prices have reduced. Till last week, the prices of jasmine and jasmine sambac were high. But it went down from Friday after the arrivals increased. We are facing a loss in business since last month despite it being a festival and muhurtham season,” said S Mookandi, secretary, Koyambedu Flower Merchants Association.

“Currently, jasmine is being sold for Rs 600 per kg, jasmine sambac for Rs 400 per kg, tuberose for Rs 400, rose for Rs 80 – Rs 100, damask rose for Rs 60 – Rs 70, crossandra infundibuliformis for Rs 300 – Rs 400, and chrysanthemum for Rs 50 – Rs 60. We expected the price to increase during three days of muhurtham. But it has decreased compared to last week,”he added.

Fruits vendors have also seen a fall in the prices of up to 10 per cent. “The prices have come down from Friday. The sale has also registered a slump in the past two weeks. We expected it would increase but it remained the same. Now, pomegranates are being sold for Rs 120 per kg, apple for Rs 120 – Rs 170 per kg, grapes (with seed) Rs 70 per kg, and orange Rs 100 per kg,” S Dhanasekar, secretary, Vegetable, Fruits and Flower Merchants’ Association.

The vegetable prices in the market have remained the same as last week. Onions are being sold for Rs 60 per kg, tomatoes for Rs 25 per kg, beans Rs 40 – Rs 45, broad beans Rs 40, carrots for Rs 30 – Rs 35, peas for Rs 30 per kg, and radishes for Rs 20 per kg.
