The police identified the driver as R Marialijosekumar (32). The investigation agency has so far arrested 42 people in connection with the three TNPSC exam scams they are probing — Group 4 held in 2019, group 2A held in 2017 and VAO examination conducted in 2016.
Marialijosekumar was part of a backup plan, the police said. He was driving Omkanthan’s car as a backup to Jayakumar’s vehicle, in which answer sheets were being transported from Rameswaram to Chennai on the night of September 1, last year, after group 4 examination was over.
“Backup vehicle was meant to handle a possible crisis if Jayakumar’s vehicle faced any snag. Though the second vehicle was not used because Jayakumar’s vehicle never had any problem on the way, Marialijosekumar was aware of the malpractice,” CB-CID sources said.
