Customs officials seized gold worth Rs 67.3 lakh at Chennai airport on Thursday.

The officials, who were checking the passengers arrived from Colombo, intercepted Suneetha Jayakath (39) of Sri Lanka. On persistent questioning, she admitted to having concealed four bundles of gold in paste form inside her rectum. On extraction, the gold weighed 506 grams and it was worth Rs 22.6 lakh. The gold was seized.


In another case on Thursday, Arun Prasadh (24) of Dindigul, who arrived from Singapore, was intercepted on suspicion of carrying gold. On examination of his baggage, an air compressor which was unusually heavy was found among his personal effects. It was dismantled and two ring-shaped gold ingots were found to be concealed in it. The gold weighed about 398 grams and it was worth Rs 17.8.


In another case, Sapoornisa (40), who arrived from Srilanka was intercepted at the exit. On personal search, a small pouch was recovered found two gold cut bits and assorted gold jewellery. In total, 239 grams of gold worth Rs 10.13 lakh was recovered and seized.


In the final incident, Inhanullah (33) of Ramanathapuram who, arrived from Colombo, was intercepted by the customs. During personal search, three bundles of gold paste were recovered from his hand baggage and one from his rectum. On extraction 374 grams of gold worth Rs 16.71 lakh was recovered and seized.
