The accused were identified E Prasanth (28) of Porur, and D Venugopal (27) and E Kumar (48) of Alappakkam. They were booked for murder, while another accused, D Essac (31) of Maduravoyal, was booked for dacoity as he escaped with the victim’s gold chain. All four were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
The deceased, Muniasamy (35) of Alappakkam, who worked at a meat shop in the locality, was found dead on Balaraman Cross Street at Rajiv Gandhi Nagar without any clothes. On information, the Maduravoyal police retrieved his body and sent it for post-mortem examination. As his skull had been broken at the back of his head, the police suspected that he could have been bludgeoned to death. They combed footages from the CCTV cameras in the locality for possible clues.
On suspicion, the trio was picked up for interrogation. Investigation revealed that Muniasamy allegedly badly about Prasanth’s wife after she separated from him. Irked over it, Prasanth decided to murder him. He invited Muniasamy to a liquor party on Sunday night. After Muniasamy got drunk, Prasanth and others attacked him with weapons and murdered him before fleeing the spot.
Munisamy’s wife had died of ill health last year after which he left his two children at his in-law’s house in Ramanathapuram.
