The other police personnel overpowered and secured the five suspects and seized the car that they used to kidnap the man. The accused were identified as M Raja Hussain (48) and his son Mohammed Saifullah (27) from Madurai, and S Rahmadullah (25), A Asif Khan (22) and S Thoufiq (22) of Tiruchy.

Among them, Raja Hussain is an accused in the bomb explosion at Hindu Munnani office at Chintadripet in 1995, and also has a murder case pending against him at Vilathikulam, Thoothukudi.

On Tuesday, Hussain had appeared at the trial court in the explosion case, and then went with the other persons to meet K Faisudhin (48) of Royapettah around 11 pm.

The police said the latter had borrowed Rs 10 lakh from Hussain. When Faisudhin allegedly sought some more time to return the sum, Hussain attacked him and drove him away in his car.

After the passers-by alerted the police control room, a team from Triplicane station, including inspector Mohandoss, rushed to the spot. On information that the car has been parked near the Royapettah clock tower, the police team headed there.

But when they tried to rescue Faisudhin, an argument erupted between the inspector and Hussain, following which the gang members allegedly attacked the officer. But the other personnel immediately overpowered the men and brought them to the police station. Further investigation is on.

Policeman’s transfer order issued on March 9
Inspector K Mohandoss, who suffered injuries in the attack by a five-member gang who tried to kidnap a man, was transferred to Tamil Nadu (South) on administrative grounds by the DGP in an order dated March 9. The inspector has been asked to report to the Inspector General (South). The State head of police has also asked the IG (South) to appoint the inspector in a non-sensitive post. When contacted, city police officials said that the Commissioner will issue a counter-order, only after which Mohandoss will report to IG, (South). However, officials remained tight-lipped why the inspector suddenly has been transferred.
