Tangedco asks LT consumers to pay charges as per past bill

Following the COVID-19 preventive measures taken by the government, Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has asked its consumers of low-tension power supply to pay the bill as per previous billing cycle in case the billing official does not come this month.

“In the event of non-assessment or not taking meter reading by the electricity billing official between March 22 and 31, the amount paid during the previous bill cycle may be taken as the assessment amount of March 2020 and payment may be made accordingly,” said Tangedco’s finance wing director in an official release.

The payment will be adjusted after ascertaining the reading during the next assessment. “Low-tension consumers are requested to make use of online payment facilities such as internet banking, mobile banking, payment gateway, BBPS, etc, offered by the power utility and avoid visiting counters as a precautionary measure,” the release added.

The consumer could pay their bills through www.tangedco.gov.in and TNEB app on Google play store. Tangedco said that a disinfectant would be sprayed at the payment counters to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“An instruction in this regard has been given to the officials and workers,” it said, adding that awareness is being created among its employees on the need to wash their hands and taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Southern Railway has asked the public to not visit ticket counters, both reserved and unreserved, from March 22 to 31 as neither booking nor cancellation cum refund would be permitted during this time. All operations would be suspended at booking counters during the said period, a statement issued by southern railway said. Railway ministry has temporarily relaxed the cancellation and refund norms. It now allows people to apply for cancellation up to three months from the date of the journey against the existing three days or 72 hours.
