Social distancing violated after traffic jam at Padi Jn, crowds at PDS shops

Even as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami have been requesting the public to maintain social distancing, serious violations were observed in multiple parts of the State including the city on Wednesday.

The lockdown to combat COVID-19 went for a toss on Monday as the city witnessed a heavy flow of traffic at important roads and vehicles piled up at close quarters disregarding the factor of social distancing as cops intensified checking. The flyover at Padi was worst hit as at least hundreds of vehicles going towards Ambattur Industrial Estate were stranded at the roundabout for almost two hours. Apart from the Padi flyover, the Poonamallee High Road also witnessed traffic jam on Wednesday morning due to the vehicle check. Vehicles were seen plying as usual on Anna Salai too.

Rural Tamil Nadu witnessed crowding in PDS shops to obtain token for Rs 1,000 announced by the State government as part of relief measures. After the announcment that t Rs 1,000 will be given in PDS shops from April 2, people started crowding the ration shops in several rural areas right from the morning to know the status of the cash distribution.
