Corporation frontline worker dies of COVID-19

According to a Corporation source, the deceased worker was a resident of Kondithope and was working in Mint area in Royapuram zone.

“The DBC worker was a permanent employee of the Chennai Corporation. He was tested positive for the virus 10 days ago and was undergoing treatment at Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. He was about to retire from the service at the end of this month,” the official said.

The source added that the worker’s residence is located inside a containment zone and he was reporting to the work regularly before his samples confirmed positive.

The Corporation is using DBC workers to conduct the door-to-door survey and also for disinfection works since the outbreak.

Several conservancy workers, sector workers, staff nurses, engineers and revenue officials have been tested positive and are undergoing treatment.

A day ago, another DBC worker who was working under NULM (National Urban Livelihood Mission) had died in Royapuram.

Even though Corporation officials claimed that the worker did not test positive for COVID19, he was admitted to the hospital with the symptoms similar to the disease. After doubts were raised, the civic body refused to hand over the body to the family members.
