“We have registered a case and further investigation is on,” a CCB official told DT Next. Tasmac decided to approach the police after cyber criminals already started extracting money from tipplers in the name of home delivery.
“Fake advertisements promising online sale and home delivery in the name of Tasmac have already started spreading on social media and some people are believing such advertisements and losing their money to fraudsters,” a police officer said.
Cyber criminals seem to be encashing the confusion raised out of closure of Tasmac liquor shops and subsequent talks about selling alcohol online.
Cyber criminals seem to be encashing the confusion raised out of closure of Tasmac liquor shops and subsequent talks about selling alcohol online. The police have warned people against fake websites, fake social media pages and similar mobile apps.
Post lockdown, as conmen know people are desperate to buy alcohol, they use liquor as a bait to empty bank accounts like in any other cyber bank fraud.
Police have already blocked a fake Tasmac website selling liquor online within hours. But by then, many had lost money and shared personal details to the fake site.
