42 shops sealed in Alandur

According to a statement from the Corporation, these shops were found functioning without following the norms such as letting in customers without masks.

During an inspection, the shops were found violating the norms and were thus sealed on Monday and Tuesday, the statement said. The civic body had already sealed more than 1,000 shops in the city since the lockdown restrictions were imposed, but allowed some of them to reopen after a certain period. Shops sealed by the civic body cannot be opened for three months or until it allows them to reopen.

“The Corporation had already held talks with traders’ association in Alandur zone and explained the restrictions imposed by the government. They were asked to wear masks and also encourage customers to wear it, apart from following social distancing norms,” said an official.

Officials from Kodambakkam zone had ordered the shops in Ranganathan Street in T Nagar to close until further order after the shop owners and customers were found violating the norms.
