He has been hospitalised after he allegedly complained of respiratory distress late Tuesday.

A DMK insider told under the condition of anonymity that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and he has been put on a ventilator since morning. Sources told DT Next that he had undergone a liver transplant in London over two decades ago.

When contacted, DMK organizing secretary RS Bharathi confirmed the his hospitalisation and said, “We don’t know the cause of illness. He reported discomfort last evening. He was hospitalized immediately.” Meanwhile, a senior IAS officer belonging to the 2003 batch is now quarantined after testing positive for the virus. According to Secretariat sources, the officer is doing well and is stable.
