As reported by this newspaper, Vairamani, the chief head warder of Sankarankoil sub-jail, was heard telling a man that he would take care of the needs of the man lodged in jail, adding that there was no need to pay any other jail staff.

The arrested person is the manager of a firecracker unit who was arrested following a fire mishap. The audio clip of the conversation made clear that Vairamani knew that the colleague had already paid Rs 14,000 to another jail staff.

The Superintendent of Palayamkottai Central prison, under whose jurisdiction lies the Sankarankoil sub-jail, said Vairamani has been placed under suspension pending inquiry.

In the clip, Vairamani is heard impressing upon the man at the other end that there was no use paying somebody who cannot make sure that the prisoner gets even a special tea. He then offers to help meet the needs of the prisoner and asks the colleague to meet him personally the next day.
