Gunasekar of Manellore village, a member of the DMK general council, recently turned 50 and decided to celebrate the milestone in a grand manner. He invited about 250 friends, most of whom were panchayat board presidents and councillors, politicians and a few government staff from in and around Gummidipoondi and Chennai, to a mango farm in Pallavada village on June 14. Gunasekar’s wife also holds a position in the party.

Though lockdown is in effect across the State and gathering of people is prohibited, the social distancing factor went for a toss during the bash and all of them were served biriyani, according to sources.

However, Gunasekar andone of his friends from Pathirivedu, who was also part of the birthday bash, tested positive for COVID on Sunday. Also, another guest, a 50-year-old block development officer in Gummidipoondi, tested positive for coronavirus, which has sent jitters among others who attended the birthday party.

While Health officials are preparing a list of participants of the birthday bash, Gunasekar has been booked under four sections including the Epidemics Act and on charges of violating the lockdown by Arambakkkam police. Further investigations are on.
