TN reports 13,447 complaints of domestic abuse during lockdown
Even as the State-wide lockdown completed three months, the Crime Against Women and Children Wing of TN police has received about 13,447 complaints of domestic abuse during the same period.

While 7,372 complaints were received over various helpline numbers, 6,150 complaints were received by the police in person or over the phone through information. Among the complaints, 13,372 were resolved by counselling, while First Information Reports (FIR) were registered on 75 complaints and 48 accused have been arrested.
The maximum number of complaints (1,424) was from Pudukottai district, followed by Tirunelveli (705). Among the cities, 257 complaints were received in Coimbatore, 163 in Salem and 45 in Chennai. These apart, 17 cases have been booked under the Immoral Trafficking Act and 38 accused including 17 women were arrested. As many as 19 women and children, held captive by the accused, were rescued and 15 raids were conducted in this regard, said a release from the wing.
Also, 360 cases have been registered under Pocso Act and 372 offenders have been arrested across the State during the lockdown. As many as 30 cases have been booked under the Juvenile Justice Act.
