While north Chennai has become the most-affected region by the coronavirus, the march was aimed at sending a message to the residents that roaming on the roads would invite police action.

At the end of the march, which started from Bombay Hotel in Washermenpet and ended at Tondiarpet Police Station, the Deputy Commissioner, on public addressing system, urged the residents to strictly follow the lockdown norms.

The commando force personnel in black uniform also wore blue coloured hand gloves, face mask, cap etc. While such parades are conducted only before elections and in tensed areas where Section 144 is enforced, this is the first time such a march was held in a pandemic situation.
