The civic body would have to file a response indicating the steps that have already been taken or were proposed to be taken to monitor any possible spread of dengue within Chennai, including cleaning of garbage and dealing with water clogging areas. Following this, the bench listed the case to August 12 for further hearing. The petitioner had also sought for the appointment of an expert committee of health and other experts in the field of public safety and communicable disease to consider the efficacy/adequacy of the measures taken by the city Corporation in tackling dengue menace in Chennai.

Continuous treatment for lysomal disorder sought

A public interest litigation has sought the intervention of the Madras High Court in providing uninterrupted treatment for patients affected by lysomal storage disorders at the Institute of Child Health, Chennai, or any other institute that have requisite medical facilities. The plea moved by Lysosomal Storage Disorders Support Society of India submitted that in view of the pandemic, treatment may be required to some of the patients that can be administered in hospitals that do not treat COVID-19 patients. The first bench comprising Chief Justice AP Sahi and Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy directed the counsel appearing for the society to move an appropriate application after serving copy of the same on the government counsel who sought time on behalf of Advocate General to assist the court. “In the event such an application is filed, the same shall be listed after two weeks. List the matter on July 28,” the bench held.
