Covid recovery rate at 86 percent, 12,190 active cases in Chennai

According to the Chennai Corporation data, the recovery rate has been increasing for the past month.

The data said that as of Monday morning, the recovery rate has improved to around 85.9%, with a total of 87,604 recoveries out of 1,01,951 cases. 2,157 deaths have been reported in Chennai.

There were only 56 containment zones in the city as on Sunday and all are part of the five zones falling under the central region.

Of them, 18 are in Kodambakkam that has 1,394 active cases while Ambattur and Anna Nagar have 17 and 16 containment zones respectively. These zones have 1,338 and 1,288 active cases. Teynampet has three containment zones and Thiru Vi Ka Nagar has one containment zone.

Even as the total number of coronavirus cases in the city has crossed the 1 lakh mark, north and south regions of the Greater Chennai Corporation are completely free of containment zones.

Meanwhile, the state capital reported 12,190 active cases.

Kodambakkam zone has the most number of corona positive patients seeking treatment and Royapuram zone, which is worst-hit among the 15 zones, has a higher number of recovered persons than other zones. As many as 10,278 persons have recovered in Royapuram, which is a 90 per cent recovery rate.

Neighbouring district of Kancheepuram recorded 213 more cases on Monday with total cases nearing 10,000.
