As no Vande Bharat Mission flights were operated from Russia since July, these students were unable to return to their native. They sought help from many quarters, including actor Sonu Sood who had been arranging repatriation of persons stranded within and outside India.
After getting information about their plight, he arranged a chartered flight for them. Many of the students were seen holding placards thanking the actor for his help. After reaching here, they were taken to hotels in city and would undergo tests for infection. They were among the 428 Indians who reached here since Tuesday night. The first flight arrived from Bahrain with 153 passengers, including nine children. After completing the COVID-19 test, and Customs and immigration clearance, they were taken for quarantine. Five of them hailing from Karnataka were sent to Bengaluru on a special vehicle. Around midnight, a special flight from Dubai arrived with 175 passengers, who were sent to quarantine after the routine checks.
