India’s first handloom cafe opens in chennai

On 6th National Handloom Day on August 7, they have opened India’s first handloom cafe at their campus at Egmore. Venkatesh Narasimhan, MD of Co-optex, took to his social media to share the news. “On this momentous, 6th National Handloom Day, I proudly present my dream project that has taken fruition over the last six months. I am happy to inform you that I have created India’s first Handloom Cafe, which celebrates the weavers and their creations presented in a unique way. I have made it themebased so that everything inside the cafe celebrates handlooms. 

The parivattams and shuttles are used as lamps, handcrafted motifs based dining tables, and a live loom that a weaver demonstrates the weaving process, a motif wall that explains all the significant motifs used in sarees. The cafe will feature the latest designs that come from weavers every week and will allow you to appreciate the beauty of a koorainadu or finesse of an arani thread work, at leisure. The primary idea behind the concept is that many youngsters need to be told about the facets of handloom weaving in an educative and absorbing manner, and what best than to have stories about handloom… with a hot samosa or a crispy medu vada in hand, along with a strong filter coffee in the other,” Venkatesh said.
