The Chennai Police filed a case on Thursday against actor and spokesperson of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), S Ve Shekhar for insulting the National flag.
The development comes after a complaint was registered against the actor in the Commissioner of Police's office for uttering offensive remarks about the National Flag and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami in the video that he had uploaded on social media.
The complainant added that the saffron colour in the national flag refers to strength and courage of the country, but Shekar misinterpreted the colour, claiming it to represent Hindus.
Earlier, the Chief Minister and fellow AIADMK Ministers had condemned SVe Shekhar for his comments about AIADMK's party flag.
It was stated that Shekhar has been booked under The prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971.
