Cop in the dock for celebrating b’day with history-sheeters
A head constable, who was already on the radar for alleged collusion with history-sheeters, is in the dock for celebrating his birthday with two known criminals, cutting cake right in the middle of the road which was blocked by parking a car. After the photos of the celebration went viral, senior officials said action would be taken against him.

The constable was identified as Boopathy, who was earlier part of a special team of Vepery police station. Following allegations that he was colluding with history-sheeters, he was moved to police control room. After COVID-19 outbreak, Boopathy was put on pandemic duty in north Chennai in May.
On June 4, Boopathy celebrated his birthday in ‘style’ in the middle of the road, blocking it with a car, and in the presence of history-sheeters. In the photos of the celebration, which went viral on social media on Tuesday, the criminals are seen feeding him cake.
The photos reached senior officers, who immediately ordered an inquiry. An officer told DT Next that it was not clear where exactly the celebration took place, but he confirmed that the constable was surrounded by men involved in criminal cases. “He was ‘on-duty’ on that day, so it is not clear whether the celebration took place in Vepery or somewhere in north Chennai,” the officer said.
The officer added that departmental action would be initiated against the head constable.
The practice of celebrating birthdays in the middle of the roads was started by gangsters and rowdy elements, which was later copied by youngsters across the State. Now, even a policeman has embraced the ‘style’, shocking fellow personnel.
