CHENNAI: The under-construction new bus terminus in Kilambakkam near Vandalur is all set to have an Archaeological Interpretation Centre and climate park as Chief Minister MK Stalin laid foundation stone for the project, which is to be created at Rs 14.98 crore. The project will be implemented by Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).

According to a government release, the archaeological interpretation centre and climate park will come up on a 16.90 acre land parcel close to the new bus terminus.

The archaeological interpretation centre and climate park will be created in a way that the visitors will get to know about local culture, urban habitat and environment, archaeological importance and others. The climate park will subside the emission from the bus terminus.

It may be noted that the new bus terminus is being constructed close to the ASI (Archaeological Survey of India) site and a floodplain.

While giving no-objection to the CMDA, the ASI has mandated that the planning authority create an archaeological interpretation centre and climate park to reduce the impact of the sudden growth of the area.

A CMDA official said that passengers will be allowed to visit the archaeological interpretation centre and climate park while waiting for their buses. The site where the park is coming is a no-construction zone by greening and an interpretation centre can be constructed as per ASI norms.

The CMDA has already prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the park.

Apart from laying foundation stone for the archaeological interpretation centre and climate park, Stalin laid foundation stone for laying concrete parking lot for heavy vehicles in Sathangadu Iron and Steel Market at Rs 5 crore.

He also inaugurated as many as 2,828 tenements constructed by Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) in Theni, Tiruchy, Erode and Vellore districts at Rs 284.32 crore. The Chief Minister also distributed allocation orders to the beneficiaries.
