Social media lights up ideas for names of Sivakasi crackers
A month before Deepavali, the oft-repeated curious question across the country is “what is new or special from Sivakasi?”. The cracker town certainly has one for this season – the ‘social media’ range.

The new variety is the brainchild of ‘Sridharaa’, the cracker company, which had named its products after social media platforms like ‘Facebook’, ‘Twitter’, ‘WhatsApp’, ‘Skype’, ‘Hike’ and of course the ubiquitous ‘Selfie’ to lure the youth segment.
Explaining how the idea was born, Madasamy, Proprietor of Sridharaa crackers, Sivakasi, told DTNext that when he was thinking to add some novelty to his company’s products, his nephew Pandi chipped in with the plan to name the crackers after social media groups. Impressed with the formula, Madasamy brought his production team to discussion table and decided to introduce six varieties of social media crackers. But, how will they make a difference from the existing attractions? Madasamy answered that their specialty is that each variety will fly as a single cracker and burst seven times in the sky. Besides, each variety will have a different colour – totally six.
Facebook cracker would explode in red, while WhatsApp will be in green, Hike in pink, Selfie in blue, Skype in mixed hues and Twitter in golden shade. “It will be gorgeous sight to see these crackers in action. They are sure to attract all ages not just with their name but also with their colours,” says Madasamy.
Another cracker maker, Pandi, popped up a surprise with 3D crackers. There are three varieties of 3D crackers available on the stands and special 3D glasses to watch the spectacle which is sure to give an ‘intimidating’ experience, says Pandi laughing.
