The young and good-looking duo have been scaling musical heights with their emotive description of ragas and brilliant stage presence. The duo will perform a concert in the city in memory of Kalaimamani D Pattammal organised by Thejus on Sunday.

Talking about their musical lineage, the brothers say, “We belong to a traditional business family from Trichur, Kerala. But our father was the first generation musician in the family. Our grandfather was a well-known connoisseur of music. Our native house in Trichur has  hosted doyens of Carnatic music like Chembai Vaidyanatha Bagavathar, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, MS amma, and KV Narayanaswamy. Although academically we pursued chartered accountancy, we were encouraged to listen to different genres of music.”

They add, “The defining moment was the day when one of our gurus, Shri. Govindan Namboothiri, asked us to come for our class at 4 am. We sang the basic seven notes aligned to sruthi for two full hours. It left a lasting impression in our minds and we knew music was our calling.”

The brothers feel that their strength lies in merging their identity into a single entity without marring individuality. They put forth, “We complement each other. We never force each other to stick to a style but at the same time, we can gauge what is going on in the other’s mind.”

Moving on to the ode that they would be paying to musical genius Kalaimamani D Pattammal, they share, “We have been going through some of her krithis for the purpose of presenting them in this concert and they are amazing. We are honoured to perform them.”
