Netizens hooked to Sarahah, anonymous messaging app

Social media has been filled with blue screenshots flashing messages – funny, quirky or at times, downright nasty. The app created to “get honest feedback from your co-workers and friends,” according to its creators, ensured that people can air their opinions anonymously.

Chennai too has become addicted to the app with an increasing number of netizens posting their Sarahah link on social media sites.

Ram K, a city-based media professional, said the anonymous messages he received were positive and made him smile. But, he admitted to playing mischief on others using the same app. “I sent messages to my friends making fun of them, but I confessed soon enough,” he said.

City-based DJ Karty said that he’s enjoying using the app. “It’s funny and a good way for people who do not want to say things at your face to say it through the app,” said Karty. He added, “It is thrilling to receive the message and try and guess who has sent it.” Priya S, an IT professional, said that she received some adorable messages, one even asking her out for coffee.

The anonymity of the app, however, also has a negative side, with some choosing to bully or harass others, especially women. Shreya from New Delhi, said that while she got a few nice messages several harsh ones forced her to quit.
