Giving old dolls a new lease of life
While maintaining kolu dolls remains the biggest challenge, Chennaiites can seek the help of Paramasivan, a 69-year-old artist who has been restoring gods and goddesses to their old glory for the past 10 years.

Paramasivan charges around Rs 500 to Rs 600 for a day’s work for repair. For painting big dolls, he charges Rs 2,500 and for small dolls Rs 300. For bigger ones, you may have to pay Rs 5,000.
Explaining the process, Paramasivan said the paint from old dolls is scrapped out, followed by application of cement primer, after which fresh painting is done with a new design. His store is located in Mylapore. You can get in touch with him at 98419 45161.
